Navy Rolls to Patriot Win over Crusaders

from staff reports

WORCESTER, Mass. – Harrison Chaires scored three goals and Tucker Hill had two goals and two assists, as the Navy men's lacrosse team rolled to an 8-3 victory over Holy Cross in a Patriot League contest Saturday.

Navy improved to 4-4 (2-2 Patriot League), while Holy Cross fell to 0-7 (0-2). Crusaders head coach Adam Pascal resigned earlier in the week, with assistant coach Jim Morrissey taking over as interim head coach for the remainder of this season.

Curtis Flood scored two of Holy Cross' three goals, both in the fourth quarter.

The first quarter ended with Navy leading 1-0 off a goal by Chaires with 2:23 left in the first quarter. The Midshipmen then scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter. At the 10:26 mark and again with 5:28 left in the quarter Hull scored for Navy. Chaires scored his second goal of the game for the Midshipmen as Holy Cross was unable to answer Navy's four goals in the first half, ending the half 4-0.

To open the second half, junior Andrew Morici cored for the Crusaders with 10:43 left in the quarter. Navy's Andy Warner then had two goals, giving Navy a 6-1 lead with 7:05 left in the third quarter. Chaires scored his third goal of the game to end the third quarter with Navy leading 7-1. Navy scored with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter with Flood then putting a goal in the net for the Crusaders with 3:46 left to play. Flood scored again with 17 seconds left in the game, ending the game with Holy Cross suffering a 8-3 defeat.

In a highly defensive Crusader game sophomore goalkeeper Mike Fisher played all 60 minutes and had five saves. Navy saw time in net from both R.J. Wickham and Mike Haas. The Crusaders were outshot 28-23 but Holy Cross picked up 26 ground balls to Navy's 19.
