'Cuse's Palasek Named Big East POW
from press release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Orange junior attackman Tommy Palasek (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and senior defenseman Thomas Guadagnolo (Jordan, N.Y.) have been recognized by the BIG EAST Conference for their performances in wins last week against Albany and Johns Hopkins. Palasek was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday, March 21 and Guadagnolo was named to the league's weekly honor roll.
Palasek averaged 3.5 points per game in SU's two victories. He scored a career-best five points, including a career-high four goals, in an 18-13 triumph over Albany on March 15. Palasek, a transfer Johns Hopkins, scored on all four of the shots he attempted against the Great Danes. Four days later against the Blue Jays, he matched his career high with two assists in a 5-4, double-overtime win against his former team.
Palasek is the third different Orange player to receive BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining JoJo Marasco (Feb. 28) and Tim Desko (March 7).
Guadagnolo scored the first goal of his career in the win versus Albany. It was the first goal by an Orange close defender this season. Against Hopkins, he shut out attackman Kyle Wharton, holding him without a goal or an assist in the contest. Guadagnolo also recorded a career-best three ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Blue Jays.
The Orange returns to action on Saturday, March 26 when it visits BIG EAST foe Villanova. Game time is 7 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
