FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team scored the first three goals of the game and never let up as it kept its offensive momentum rolling in a 17-10 win over host Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference (NEC) action Saturday afternoon at Campus Field. With the effort, RMU scored at least 15 goals for the third straight outing, achieving that feat for the second time in program history. The Colonials also assisted on 12 of those 17 scores to tally a double-digit assist total for the third-consecutive game.

While the offense was making headlines, there was a notable defensive performance as well. Meagher, who also tied his career high with six ground balls, tallied another caused turnover later in the game and finished the day with a new program record sum of 44.

Senior Kyle Buchanan (Nepean, Ontario / John McCrae)led the offensive outburst Saturday as he finished with a game-high five points courtesy of a hat trick and two assists. RMU had statistical advantages in shots (46-33) and shots on goal (33-18) and also committed fewer turnovers. However, its biggest area of control may have been in ground balls as RMU held a 41-25 margin in that department, marking the third straight game in which the Colonials have had at least 14 more ground balls than their opponent. Robert Morris has tallied 138 ground balls in its past three games compared to the 87 grabbed by its opposition.

Robert Morris scored the game's first three goals in the first six minutes and had a 5-3 lead after one quarter of play. After the Pioneers pulled within one early in the second frame, RMU took control by going on a 5-0 run in fewer than six minutes. The Colonials maintained a six-goal margin at the half, 11-5.

Sacred Heart scored the first three goals out of the break to make the proceedings more interesting, but that would be as close as it would get the rest of the way as RMU responded with back-to-back goals to push the margin back to five, 13-8. Robert Morris led 14-9 after 45 minutes of action and extended its lead in the final stanza.

The Colonials got a couple of goals from unlikely sources.

One week after tallying his first-career point, sophomore defenseman Sean Meagher (Chesterfield, Mo. / St. Louis University) scored his first-career goal in the third quarter. Sean also added an assist to record his first career multi-point game.
