Jason Lamb, the long-time coach at Brigham Young who left at the
conclusion of the 2009 campaign, has been hired as the men's
lacrosse coach and Director of Lacrosse Operations at Adams State
College, according to Athletic Director Larry Mortensen.
"Adams State is tremendously excited about getting Coach Lamb to
direct the men's and women's programs at our institution," said
Mortensen on Monday. "We are excited to grow lacrosse at the
NCAA D-II level in the West."
Adams State, which is located in Alamosa, Colo., will be joining
NCAA Division II in both men's and women's starting in the fall of
2010 and with a full varsity schedule in the spring of '11.
"The thing that is most exciting for me is this is an excellent
athletic department behind this move," said Lamb. "This is not
an exploratory move. They are committed to a head coach, they are
committed to the facilities, and they are committed to winning.
Being in athletics as long as I have, there are things you want to
be associated with and Adams State has all of it."
Lamb was the head coach at BYU from 1995 through 2009, amassing a
213-69 record and three national championships (1997, 2000, 2007),
but was relieved of his job with the Cougars after not sharing
the same vision with the University's club sports director.
Adams State is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference,
a conference that already boasts one upcoming varsity program, Mesa
State, as well as numerous well-run MCLA programs such
as Metro State, Fort Lewis, Colorado Mines, Regis and Western
State.
