from press release
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack men's lacrosse program has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period for the class of 2015.
"The Merrimack Men's Lacrosse program is very proud to announce the four student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to join our class beginning in the fall of 2011," said head coach Mike Morgan who will enter his fourth season in 2011. "This is a group of skilled, hard-working student-athletes, all from great high school programs. Our staff is excited to have such a great group joining our roster next season."
In 2010, the Warriors recorded a 13-3 record, defeating top-ranked and then-unbeaten Le Moyne in the Northeast-10 Championship in overtime, becoming just the second team in 42 games to defeat the Dolphins in Syracuse. The 2010 Warriors, who won their second-career conference title, featured first-team All-American and Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Year Cory Spinale and the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year Corey Lunney.
Student-Athletes that have signed NLI's for the 2011-12 season:
Andy Basler , Defense, (Chelmsford, MA/ Chelmsford H.S.)
2009 & 2010 Adidas All American...three-time MVC All Conference...four-year starter...career leader for points by a defenseman at Chelmsford.
Morgan on Basler: "Andy brings a combination of size and skill to our defense. He has the ability to press out and throw hard checks while also playing strong position defense. His ability to push the ball in transition will also fit very well in our style of play. He was one of the top defenseman in New England that we saw last year."
Kyle Guilbert, Attack, (Walpole, MA/ Walpole H.S.)
2010 Adidas All American...2009 Massachusetts State Champion...owns Walpole High record for most goals in a season (62)...80 pts as a junior.
Morgan on Guilbert: "Kyle has the ability to create for himself and beat his man, but his best quality is probably off the ball as a finisher. He has an excellent feel for the game and that has shown in his numbers the past few seasons. Kyle has been a leading scorer for Walpole for the past three years and has played a key role in helping them win their titles."
Owen Jarem, Defense, (Clifton Park, NY/ Shenendehowa H.S.)
2010 All Conference & All-Area Section II Team...35 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers in 2010...NYS Scholar-Athlete 2010....three-year starter.
Morgan on Jarem: "Owen has a great combination of on-ball presence, a very good stick and is a very smart defender. He was one of the anchors that helped Shenendehowa become arguably the best program in the country last year. Owen is a hard worker and will bring an added toughness to our defense."
Jamie Shand , Attack/Midfield, (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa H.S.)
2010 Nassau County All-Conference....Nassau County Finals 2010...Led team in goals and assists with 65 pts as a junior.
Morgan on Shand: "Jamie is excellent feeder with a very high lacrosse IQ. He was the quarterback of the Massapequa offense and has helped solidify them as one of the top teams on Long Island last year. Jamie has shown that he has the ability to continuously beat his man to create for his teammates."
