No. 4 Limestone Upsets No. 2 Le Moyne

WASHINGTON, D.C. — No. 4 Limestone outscored No. 2 Le Moyne 5-2 in the second half while while sophomore attack Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) scored five goals and junior attack Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada) dished out five assists and one goal to lead the Saints past the Dolphins 11-9 in a NCAA Division II men's lacrosse showdown at Georgetown Prep in Washington, D.C.

The victory was Limestone's (4-0) first in the series since the 2005 national semifinals and snapped Le Moyne's (1-1) regular season win streak at 47 games.

Senior goalie Steve Gartelman (Seaford, N.Y.), who stopped 11 shots on the day, was also critical for the Saints.

Attackmen Jackson Decker (Port Moody, British Columbia), a junior and sophomore Tyler Baker (Petersborough, Ontario) each scored two goals including one by Baker that broke a 7-7 tie in the third quarter giving the Saints the lead for good at 8-7 and an advantage that the Saints would push to as many as three in the fourth quarter. Senior attack Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.) scored once.

Special teams played a key part in Sunday's win. While Limestone scored on all five of its extra man opportunities, the Saints were a man-down seven times and yielded only two goals.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, March 12 at Mars Hill for a key non-conference South Region contest which begins at 1:00 p.m.

Limestone was outshot on a game for the first this season with Le Moyne holding a 40-25 advantage

The Saints yielded five goals in the opening quarter yet only four the final three quarters

- Shayne Jackson is averaging 6.5 points per game having totaled 26points (6g, 20a) in four games...

- Riley Loewen is averaging 3.4 goals per contest with a total of 17 after four games...

- Limestone in route to its 4-0 start has won games in three different states (Maryland, North Carolina and Florida).

- Saints have yet to play a game at "The Rock" with the opener on Saturday, March 19 against Belmont Abbey.

- The 2011 season is the 22nd year of competition for the Limestone men's lacrosse team which currently sports, including Sunday's outcome, an all-time record of 212-85. The Saints hold an all-time scoring advantage against their foes of 4,242-2,541.
