Loewen Named CC Player of Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Limestone sophomore attack Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) has been the named the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for week three of the 2011 season.
Riley earned the honor for his efforts in leading then No.4 Limestone to an 11-9 victory over then No.2 Le Moyne on Sunday, March 6 in Bethesda, Maryland in what was clash of NCAA Division II powers and rematch of a 2010 national semifinal.
Loewen scored a game high five goals on seven shots and had a team best five groundballs in leading the now third-ranked Saints to their first series when since the 2005 national semifinals while snapping now co-fourth ranked Le Moyne's regular season win streak at 47 games. Loewen scored three goals that tied Sunday's game and two others that gave the Saints the lead. Three of his goals were in man-up situations as Limestone was a perfect 5-for-5 in extra man opportunities.
A major force in Limestone's 4-0 start to the 2011season, Loewen has scored a team best 17 goals for an average of 3.4.
Riley Loewen is third Limestone player in as many weeks to start the season to be honored by the Conference joining junior attack Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario) who was named in week two (3.1.11) while Desi Gonzalez (Massepequa, N.Y.) was the first honoree (2.22.11).
Limestone, which travels to NCAA Division II South Region foe and seventh-ranked Mars Hill on Saturday, March 12 at 1p.m., has opened the season with wins in three different states (Maryland, North Carolina and Florida)
