Reverse Sting Lifts No. 11 Adelphi Past AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 19 to take on Northeast-10 rival AIC at Ronald J. Abdow Field, The Panthers scored the first eight goals of the contest, on the way to a 17-5 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while AIC remains winless at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

The Panthers exploded with a 5-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Three of Adelphi's first five goals were scored by Tommy Susko, who had five goals on the day.

Adelphi was up 8-0 in the second period when AIC scored its first goal by Dan Maclssac, who would go on to score three more goals to give him a four goal game.Danny Blau and Shane Wynn would tack on two more for the Panthers in the final three minutes of the half, giving Adelphi an insurmountable 10-1 lead at intermission.

The second half of action was closer then the first, as AIC put up four goals to Adelphi's seven. However, the Yellowjackets could not counter the Panthers 57-34 edge in shots and 38-23 margin of victory in ground balls.

AIC goalie Eric Whettell would receive the loss after giving up 13 goals with nine saves, while Eric Jansen made seven stops and was credited with the win for Adelphi. Fellow netminders Adian Bennardo and Keith McDermott also saw time, making two and three saves respectively.

Susko was Adelphi's top scorer with five goals and one assist on the day, while four other Adelphi players ended up with two goals apiece, including Blau who also had five assists. Jessie Colamussi was also key for the Panthers, winning 17 of 20 face-off attempts he took on the afternoon and coming up with eight ground balls.

Adelphi will return to action on March 26, when they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts for a 1:00 pm meeting with Bentley.
