Merrimack Bounces Back, Beats No. 12 Pfeiffer

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Merrimack men's lacrosse team rebounded Wednesday afternoon with an 11-8 victory over Pfeiffer University in its final non-conference game of the regular season to earn a split in its two-game North Carolina road trip.
No. 4 Merrimack trailed 4-3 through one quarter, but grabbed a 5-4 halftime lead against the 12th-ranked Falcons behind second-period goals from Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) and Brad McAdam (Neshanic Station, NJ).
The visitors finally took control in the third scoring five straight goals as Nick Vazquez (Haverhill, MA) scored three times, while Jordan Tiger (Ridgefield, CT) and Terence Barclay (Babylon, NY) each had a goal each to give the Warriors the 9-5 lead through three quarters.
The Falcons rallied in the fourth with a pair of goals in the first three minutes to cut the deficit to three, but Michael Balbuena (Falmouth, MA) responded to push the lead back to 11-7 midway through the fourth with his second of the game. Merrimack's defense was sharp in the fourth, forcing nine turnovers.
"We had to shake off Monday's loss and came out a little sluggish," said head coach Mike Morgan. "Overall, it was a good team effort and I'm glad the guys refocused after the loss. Now we head back tomorrow and look forward to Assumption on Saturday.
Barclay added two goals in the win, while Lunney had a goal and an assist. In all, seven Warriors scored as the visitors outshot the Falcons 39-31.
Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) made four saves in goal for the win, while Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA) won 19 of 23 draws and added a goal and seven ground balls.
Merrimack (4-1, 1-0 NE-10) returns to conference action against Assumption Saturday at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
