No. 10 Adelphi Improves to 5-1, Dumps Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to take on league-foe Bentley University this afternoon in Waltham, Mass. Adelphi used a 4-0 first period en route to the 9-6 victory. Adelphi improves to 5-1 and 2-0 in the NE-10, while Bentley falls to 0-3 and 0-3.
For the Panthers, junior Kieran Riegel scored three goals and added one assist, while classmates Joe Vitale and Danny Blau each added a goal and an assist. Junior Eric Janssen set asied 17 shots for the win.
The Panthers opened the game with four first period goals with three coming from Riegel. Junior Timothy Aiello scored the other Panther goal in the period with the assist coming from Blau.
James Gilloran got Bentley on the board in the second period with a goal, but Adelphi answered right back with a score of their own from Vitale to take a 5-1 halftime lead.
In the third period both teams would trade goals once again, while Adelphi opened up the final period with back-to-back goals from sophomores Jeff Melsopp and Kevin Kennedy. With 4:20 left in the final period, Blau found the back of the net to give Adelphi a comfortable 9-3 lead.
Bentley would attempt a comeback in the final four minutes with three unassisted goals but it wasn't nearly enough as Adelphi held on for the victory.
For the Falcons, Brendan Grant scored two goals and one assist, while Dan Keefer netted two scores. Mike O'Neil stopped shots seven in defeat.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they host Dominican College at 4:00 p.m. in their home-opener.
