from press release
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Senior Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored the go-ahead goal 57 seconds into the fourth quarter as the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse knocked off sixth-ranked Adelphi, 9-8, on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Motamed Field. The Dolphins, who have won 43 consecutive Northeast-10 Conference regular season games, scored twice over the opening 5:15 of the game to take the early lead.
Senior attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard 1:01 into the contest after working his way around his defender from the left side. The goal extended Harmatuk's streak of consecutive games with a tally to 42. Just over four minutes later, redshirt junior midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) doubled Le Moyne's lead with his 11th goal of the season.
Shane Wynn answered back 2:05 later to get the Panthers on the scoreboard with the final goal of the quarter.
Senior attackman Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) regained the two-goal for the Dolphins with an unassisted tally at the 11:42 mark of the second quarter.
The Panthers responded with three goals in a span of 4:04 to take their first lead of the game. Wynn netted his second goal of the contest to ignite the run with 11:06 on the clock off a pass from Joe Vitale. Vitale evened the score at three apiece 37 seconds later after taking a feed from Kieran Riegel. Tommy Susko put Adelphi up 4-3 with 7:02 left in the half off a pass from Danny Blau.
After four minutes and six seconds of scoreless action, Venditti registered his 20th goal of the year to knot the score at four.
The teams traded goals in the third quarter, which ended with game tied at six. Blau put the Panthers back in front with an unassisted goal 1:45 into the second half. Just under seven minutes later, Chadderdon scored low in transition after an errant Adelphi pass went out-of-bounds behind the Le Moyne goal to tie the score at five. The Panthers took the lead for the final time with 4:00 left in the quarter as Susko scored in transition off a pass from Kyle Yberg after goalkeeper Eric Janssen made a save. Le Moyne answered back with 2:05 remaining in the period as senior attackman Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) worked his way from behind the goal off a re-start of a missed shot for his team-best 21st goal of the campaign.
Chadderdon put the Dolphins in front for good with his 18th goal of the season just 57 seconds into the final quarter. After five minutes and 22 seconds of back-and-forth action, Harmatuk extended Le Moyne's lead to 8-6 with his 18th goal of the year. Following the re-start off a missed shot, Harmatuk fed Chadderdon for the eventual game-winning goal with 7:29 remaining in the contest.
The Panthers closed out the game's scoring with a pair of goals in the final 36 seconds of action. After forcing a turnover in Le Moyne's offensive end of the field, the Panthers cleared the ball up field, where Ken Fundus found the back of the net from the middle of the box off a pass from Bryan Hall. After Adelphi caused another turnover with 11 seconds remaining, Hall scored from left of the crease after taking a feed from Yberg with half of a second left.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) made a season high-tying eight saves in between the pipes for his 21st career victory. Janssen turned away 13 shots in the loss for the Panthers.
Le Moyne (10-1, NE-10 8-0), which has won seven straight games over the Panthers, can clinch a share of its fourth straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season title with a win over Bentley on Saturday. Prior to the 3:00 p.m. face-off, the 10 members of the Class of 2011 (Alexander, Chadderdon, Harmatuk, Sennett, Venditti, Corey Bulken, Jikado Hanna, Nick Blumer, Nick DiSarro and Pat Moran) will be honored for their contributions to the program.
