No. 1 Mercyhurst Handles Wheeling Jesuit

MARTINS FERRY, Ohio -- The No. 1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse won 13-6 at Wheeling Jesuit Tuesday. Four Lakers scored two goals in the East Coast Conference (ECC) victory.
Hurst dominated early play, going ahead 7-0 in the match's first 20 minutes. Brady Heseltine scored five minutes into the first quarter. Jake McAndrew followed with a goal with 3:31 left and then Kyle Kallay added another score 11 seconds later. Brian Scheetz assisted on both goals.
In the second quarter, Deven Alves put the visitors up 4-0 and then Scheetz found Brandon Thomson less than a minute later. Heseltine and Kallay capped the spurt with goals separated by just 31 seconds. Wheeling finally got on the board with 68 seconds remaining in the first half.
Neither team could dent the scoreboard early in the third period, but Landon Delprince scored his second goal 10 minutes in. Zac Reid responded with a goal to end the third frame and then gave Hurst a 9-2 advantage with a score 23 seconds into the fourth. James Chayka collected assists on both Reid goals.
Delprince posted a hat trick a few minutes later, kicking off a high-scoring stretch to close the contest. Matt Hummel scored twice, while Ryan Sullivan andJames Rogan added goals.
Kallay, Reid, Heseltine, and Hummel each finished with two scores. Scheetz dished out three helpers and Reid and Chayka had two assists apiece. Michael Grace made four saves in net. The Lakers outshot the Cardinals, 37-16, and converted all three of their man-up opportunities.
Hurst (7-0, 6-0 ECC) will face Pfeiffer at Gettysburg College on Saturday, April 7. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. face-off.
