Ternosky Named Conference Carolinas POY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Limestone junior face-off specialist Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, N.Y.) has been named the 2012 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year and is one of 11 Saints named All-Conference Carolinas after leading the team to a 5-0 mark in league action in route to a fourth consecutive regular season title.
Ternosky was one of seven to earn First-Team honors and is joined by senior midfielder Jackson Decker (Port Moody, British Columbia), junior attack Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) senior position mate Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario), junior midfielder Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, British Columbia), and defensemen Anthony Starnino (Rochester, N.Y.), a sophomore, and senior Josh Wharton (Pasadena, Md.).
Second-Team accolades went to senior goalie Steve Gartelman (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Corey Rich (Sacramento, Calif.) while two seniors, midfielder Desi Gonzalez (Massapequa, N.Y.) and defenseman Steven Sauser (Pasadena, Md.) garnered Honorable-Mention.
Ternosky dominated at the center "x" leading the conference with an eye popping .826 face-off win percentage taking 62-of-75 attempts, 18 wins led to goals on the immediate possessions while his 32 ground balls were also a league best. Ternosky currently is No. 2 nationally in Division II with a .700 face-off% (159-227).
Jackson totaled 10 points scoring five goals with as many assists in league action and is third overall in team scoring with 30 points (20g, 10a).
Loewen and Jackson, who earned Co-Conference Player of the Year honors last season, combined for 18 goals and 17 assists in the five league games despite seldom playing a full sixty minutes of action.
Loewen led the way with 19 points in league play with a team best 11 goals while adding eight assists and also sported a conference high water mark with an .852 shot-on-goal %. He leads the team with 40 goals and is second nationally in goals per game (3.08) and fifth in scoring average (4.08) with a total of 53.
Jackson led the way with nine assists in conference clashes, adding seven goals, and overall is fourth in Division II in points per outing (4.15) with a team best 54 and is No. 2 in assists per game (2.69) and team leader with 35.
Reinholdt scored eight goals adding a pair of helpers and has 30 points overall thanks in part to 20 goals on the year.
Starnino, Wharton and Sauser anchor a defense that yielded only 23 goals (4.54) and is currently No. 3 nationally in scoring defense (5.38) and No. 1 in man-down defense (.892)
Gartelman was tops in the league in goals-against average (5.82) and second in save% (.586). Currently 12-1 on the season, he owns an overall 5.82 GAA and is fifth in Division II with a .586 save percentage.
Rich tallied seven points (6g, 1a) in the league and has 29 points overall (20g, 9a) while Gonzalez grabbed 18 ground balls scored three goals and won all five of his face-off attempts and currently has 11 points overall (7g, 4a).
Limestone's total of 11 honorees were the most of any Conference Carolinas school.
