MacDerment Joins Saint Michael's Men's Lacrosse Staff

from press release

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College has hired Craig MacDerment as a men's lacrosse assistant coach after a standout playing career at Castleton State College. As a senior, MacDerment played under head coach Brian Kingsbury, who enters his initial campaign as the Purple Knights' head coach this spring.

"I am excited to have Craig on the sideline with me," said Kingsbury. "He is a dedicated, hard-working, trustworthy person who has a passion for teaching lacrosse. He knows my system and is a champion at heart."

A four-year member of a Castleton State squad that went 49-27 overall during his career, including 28-2 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), MacDerment was a two-time captain and helped the Spartans qualify for two NCAA Division III Tournaments. MacDerment totaled 71 points in 72 career contests, but he was even better on the face-off X, winning 793 draws at a 67.2-percent clip and scooping up 512 ground balls. In addition to being a three-time NAC All-Conference selection and the team MVP as both a junior and senior, MacDerment was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American as a senior.

MacDerment, who earned his degree in physical education in 2011, was heavily involved with community activities and serving in leadership positions. He was a community adviser for Castleton State Residence Life for two years and an Upward Bound mentor, where he worked with high school students looking to attend college.

In addition to being a clinician at the Castleton State lacrosse clinic for high schoolers, MacDerment worked in the College For Every Student mentoring program for four years, helped organize a Halloween party for children in the Castleton, Vt., area for three years, and worked his college's Accepted Students Day.
