Dolan, Queens Win Inaugural SAC Title

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 11-10 this afternoon in the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship. The conference tournament win is the first for the Royals in program history.
With the game sitting tied at 10-10 heading into the final five minutes of action, it would be senior attacker Matthew Michael to step up for Queens. Michael would zip the ball into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Jimmy Chickerella with 1:52 on the clock. The Royals' Kenneth Stryker then won the face-off for Queens and they spread the field running time off the clock.
The Bears' Tyler Kotch had one last chance to send the game into overtime, but tournament MVP Eric Dolan of Queens came up huge with a save to help the Royals collect the win.
Matthew led the Royals with three goals and one assist, while Chickerella and Garrett Chan each notched two goals and two assists. Stryker won 12-of-23 face-offs and totaled seven ground balls.
After getting off to a quick 2-0 start, the Royals found themselves holding just a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter. The Bears held the momentum at the start of the second putting three in a row in the net before the Royals notched two to give the game a 5-5 score at the halftime break.
Lenoir-Rhyne would begin the third with back-to-back scores again, before the Royals were able to put together a 3-0 push and go ahead 8-7 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Queens' Dolan completed play in goal with 18 saves, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Alex Squire totaled 11 saves.
Jay Goldsmith led the Bears with five goals on the day.
