Albano Named Assistant Coach at Manhattanville

from press release

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Tom Albano, a four-year men's lacrosse letterwinner at Division III Springfield College, has been named an assistant coach at Manhattanville College, head coach Todd Hodgson announced recently.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to help this program continue its recent success," Albano said. "I am looking forward to assisting Coach Hodgson in raising the profile of the Manhattanville men's lacrosse team on both the regional and national level."

Albano comes to Manhattanville with a bevy of collegiate lacrosse experience at Springfield, earning four varsity letters and serving as the team's starting netminder as a junior and senior. In 51 career games (39 starts), Albano posted a career 7.19 goals against average, a .601 save percentage and a 25-14 record, while his 400 career saves rank sixth in school history at Springfield.

He had one of the best seasons in program history as a senior captain in 2009, posting a school-record 7.04 goals against average and stopping 61.7 percent of shots he faced. Albano earned ECAC New England Region Goaltender of the Year honors and an All-ECAC first-team selection, while he was also recognized as a first-team All-Pilgrim Lacrosse League honoree and was selected to play in the 2009 NEILA/Turfer East-West Senior All-Star game. The netminder led the team to the second round ofNCAA Tournament last year, where he made 22 saves against eventual NCAA titlist Cortland State.

In four seasons, Albano helped Springfield to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three Pilgrim League championships.

In addition to program-wide duties including recruiting and game and practice preparation, Albano will serve as a valuable mentor to senior goaltender Andrew Predun, who was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference second team as a junior in 2009.

"We are thrilled to have someone of Tom's caliber in our program," Hodgson said. "I believe Tom will have an immediate impact on our goaltenders and defensive unit. He brings with him a great lacrosse pedigree and a wealth of knowledge from which our players will greatly benefit."

Albano will join fellow Springfield alumnus and former Pride captain Drew Ginsberg on the Valiant sidelines this season, continuing a long line of Springfield alumni who have gone on to become head and assistant coaches around the country.
