Colorado College Sweeps SCAC Awards
from press release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior defender Zach Hoisington and junior attackman Carson Christman were named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for leading Colorado College to back-to-back victories over Goucher College and Swarthmore College last weekend in Pennsylvania.
Hoisington, who won the defensive honor for the second time in his career, anchored the Tiger defense which held both opponents to fewer than 10 goals. He had one ground ball and caused two turnovers during the 11-9 victory over Goucher, then recorded two ground balls and caused one turnover in the 9-8 overtime triumph at Swarthmore.
Hoisington's biggest contribution was shutting down the top scoring threat for each team. The two players he was assigned to combined for just two goals and one assist.
Christman, who earned the offensive award for the third time, recorded four goals and three assists during last weekend's games. He struck for three goals on six shots and added an assist against Goucher, then recorded one tally and set up a pair at Swarthmore.
During Sunday's overtime victory, Christman posted career highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers while pressuring the Garnet defenders, which led to nine failed clears in 22 attempts for Swarthmore.
Colorado College continues its seven-game road stretch this Saturday, traveling to Sewanee for its 2011 SCAC opener.
