No. 16 Fisher Escapes Scranton in OT

SCRANTON, Pa. - Mitch Ritchie scored 1:24 into overtime to lift the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over host Scranton University on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Fisher, currently ranked 16th in the national coaches poll, improves to 9-1 overall.
In overtime, Scranton won the opening faceoff to take the first possession, but senior goalie Matt McShea made one of his 11 saves with 1:11 into the extra period. Thirteen seconds later, Connor Henderson fed Ritchie, who scored his second goal of the game to end the contest.
Henderson finished with two goals and one assist, while junior All-American Kyle Denhoff finished with one goal and two assists. Ryan Schmidt, Mike Cummins, Mike Byrnes and Zach Fayette also scored in the win, while Alexander Bopp picked up an assist.
Cummins totaled seven ground balls, while Mitch Bailey added five. Bailey also caused two turnovers. Erich Rassow went 11-for-20 at the X.
Fisher trailed 2-0 late in the first quarter, but tied the game with two goals in the final 20 seconds of the opening period. The Cardinals scored all four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead into the locker room.
Scranton scored the first two goals of the second half, cutting Fisher's lead to 6-4, but the Cardinals doubled their lead and led 8-4 midway through the third.
Scranton scored the final four goals of regulation, knotting the game at 8s with just over three minutes left in regular.
Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Stevens Institute of Technology. After that, the Cardinals will play at Rochester Institute of Technology next Wednesday. Both Stevens (No. 6/10-0) and R.I.T. (No. 4/7-0) are undefeated and ranked ahead of Fisher.
