SJF Hits 10-Win Mark for Fifth Straight Year

The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team outscored Alfred
University 6-0 in both the first and second quarters and coasted to
a 16-7 win over the visiting Saxons on Saturday at Fisher's Growney
With the win, Fisher, ranked 18th in the latest national coaches poll, improves to 10-4 overall and 2-4 in the Empire 8 Conference. It is the fifth straight year that the Cardinals have reached double digits in the win column.
Ten different players scored for Fisher. Mike Byrnes assisted on three of Fisher's first four goals and also scored twice to finish with a career-high five points. Junior All-American Kyle Denhoff scored all three of his goals in the first half, while Kory Smart's three assists also came in the first half.
Senior Zach Fayette scored two goals, including the game's first goal, just 36 seconds into the contest. Mitch Ritchie and Mike Cummins also scored twice. Cummins also led Fisher with seven ground balls.
Ryan Schmidt and Ryan Leonard both finished with one goal and one assist, while Eric Klein, Nick Mooney and Erich Rassow also scored in the win. Rassow also went 16-for-21 on faceoffs. Cummins and Mitch Bailey forced two turnovers.
Goalie Matt McShea stopped five shots and allowed just three goals in just under 42 minutes of action.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Utica College.
