No. 4 Dickinson Drops Hammer on No. 17 Roanoke

CARLISLE, Pa. – The #4-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team enjoyed the nice weather on Saturday, and also enjoyed a solid win over #17-ranked Roanoke College at Biddle Field.
The Red Devils took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. Junior Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished an assist from senior Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) to put the Devils on the board at the 8:09 mark. Sophomore Brett Parker Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored an unassisted goal with 5:12 on the clock.
Roanoke answered to open the second quarter as Conner DuBois put the Maroons on the board at the 12:16 mark. The Red Devils responded with seven straight goals to hold a 9-2 advantage at halftime. Cannon erupted with four goals in the quarter, scoring a natural hat-trick with three straight to put Dickinson up, 6-1, with 6:03 to play.
First-year Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) found the net from long-range to trigger the run. Junior Brian Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien) added a goal as well, and fed senior Marek Laco (Potomac, Md./Landon) during the seven-goal clip.
DuBois capitalized on a Red Devil penalty to net an extra-man goal with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter. Sophomore Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) finished a feed from Kobi Frankel (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Gleason tacked on another goal with an assist from Parker to give Dickinson an 11-4 advantage, heading into the final period.
Menard struck again, just over a minute into the quarter, with an assist from Cherry at the 13:59 mark. Just over a minute and a half later, Cherry gave the Devils a 13-4 lead, finishing an extra-man goal with an assist from classmate Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga).
Roanoke tallied its final goal at the 6:21 mark as Richard Lachlan found the cage.
The Devils closed out the game with goals from Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Gleason while Parker and Cannon each tallied another assist on the afternoon. Long-pole defender Draper Donley (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) dished out a nice assist on Cannon's first goal of the second quarter. First-year Will Trevenen (Montclair, N.J./Taft) also handed out an assist in the second.
Senior All-American Peter Zouck (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) was a dominant force on the defensive end of the field, causing eight turnovers and controlling seven ground balls. Donley picked-up six GBs while sophomore Slay Sudah (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Joseph) added three GBs.
Junior Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won 15-of-22 face-offs and controlled a game-high nine GBs while long-pole midfielder Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) caused three turnovers and controlled three ground balls on the day. Senior Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) made 12 saves in the cage for the Red Devils.
DuBois led Roanoke (1-2) with three goals while Charles Pease made 17 saves in the cage.
The Red Devils improve to 5-0 on the season. They travel to Widener University next Saturday for a 1:00 pm face-off.
