Salisbury Men Name '13 Captains
from press release
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team announced its team captains for the 2013 season on Tuesday.
Seniors, midfielder and face-off specialist Tyler Granelli and long-stick midfielder Brett Baer, and junior midfielder Tim Stone will serve as the Sea Gull captains; it is the first season that any of them have held the position.
Baer was one of the main components to Salisbury's No. 1-ranked defense in 2012 that held opponents to only five goals per game. The Manchester, Md., native played in all 23 games and made one start in 2012, while causing 20 turnovers (fourth on the team) and scooping up 31 ground balls. He also finished with two points (one goal and one assist).
Tim Stone is one of the players that the team has high expectations for coming into this season, as he will be stepping into the midfield and looking to play a lot of minutes. In 2012, Stone made 10 appearances for Salisbury, while scoring one goal and one assist (two points). He also caused one turnover and picked up four ground balls.
Granelli, the reigning United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association National Face-Off Specialist of the Year and first-team All-American, looks to lead the Sea Gulls from the X again this season. Last season, he won 66.3 percent (242-of-365) of his face-offs and picked up a team-leading 164 ground balls. Granelli also scored seven points on three goals and four assists.
The trio of captains will lead Salisbury into the season after having won its second-consecutive and 10th-overall National Championship in 2012.
