Martin, Sheppard Named HSC Captains
from press release
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Seniors Ryan Martin and Cameron Sheppard have been named the 20123 Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse captains.
"Our team and coaching staff is very pleased with the election of seniors Ryan Martin and Cameron Sheppard as our Team Captains for 2013. They are both outstanding men that lead by example both in practice and in games. They are both men that our team can follow on and off the field," said Head Coach Ray Rostan.
Martin was the Tigers third leading scorer from a year ago, posting 40 points, and was second on the team in both goal (27) and assists (13). Martin proved to be particularly lethal on extra man opportunities, posting a team best eight man-up goals. Martin was a very efficient offensive player as a junior, tallying a .500 shot percantage as he needed only 54 shots to pocket his 27 goals.
"Ryan had a very fine junior year as our second leading scorer on attack. He returned to H-SC this fall with a renewed and exceptional drive. He rarely misses a day on the field honing his skills," said Coach Rostan.
Sheppard established himself as a top flight ODAC defender as a junior en route to earning Second-Team All-ODAC honors. He tallied 10 caused turnovers along with 32 ground balls a year ago and was often given the task of defending the opponents top attackman
"Cameron Sheppard was one of the most dominant defenders in the ODAC last season. He brought great intensity and focus to our locker room for every game in 2012," stated Coach Rostan.
Hampden-Sydney starts its 2013 season on February 16 when the Tigers host Mary Washington University at 1 pm.
