Olin Named First Head Coach at Capital
from press release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bill Olin, a former Division I student-athlete with six years of lacrosse coaching experience, has been named the first head men's lacrosse coach at Capital University, director of athletics Steve Bruning announced Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Olin begins his career at the helm of the Crusaders' men's lacrosse program, which makes its debut in the 2013-14 academic year, following a stint as a coach/director of recruiting at Iron Horse Academy, a lacrosse club based in Texas that prepares high school age players for competition at the college level.
Olin will manage and coordinate all facets of the program and will also serve as a game manager for the athletics department. His anticipated start date is Dec. 17.
"Bill has a variety of experiences at all different levels of lacrosse and has a strong approach to recruiting," Bruning said. "We are fully confident in his approach to starting a new program and believe he will be a great fit in the Capital University community."
Prior to working with Iron Horse Academy, Olin served as assistant men's lacrosse coach for two seasons (2010-12) at the State University of New York at Potsdam, a Division III institution. Serving as defensive coordinator, Olin helped lead the Bears to their first-ever home State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament game and appearance in the conference tournament final in 2011. During that same year, one of his defensemen was named SUNYAC Player of the Year and honorable mention All-America.
"I would like to thank Dr. Bruning, Coach (and associate director of athletics Dixie) Jeffers and the entire hiring committee for granting me the wonderful opportunity to start a men's lacrosse program at Capital University," Olin said. "I look forward to being a part of this excellent academic institution and adding to the rich history of Crusader athletics."
Olin was a four-year starting goaltender at Division I Rutgers (N.J.) University. He was a three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and three-year member of the All-ECAC Academic team. Olin was also named to the Big East Honor Roll in 2010.
Olin also served for two years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Horseheads (N.Y.) High School, where he managed the goaltenders and defense, developed and implemented defensive packages and monitored team conditioning. He has worked a number of lacrosse camps over the last six years, including four years at Colgate University's All-American camp and six years at Players Choice Lacrosse camps.
A native of Horseheads, N.Y., Olin earned his bachelor's in history from Rutgers in 2010, and received his master's in education from Potsdam in 2012.
