Fast Start Leads Sewanee Over BSC

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Behind seven goals in the first period, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team advanced to Sunday's Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship match with a 15-5 win over Birmingham-Southern, Friday, at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The Tigers outscored the Panthers 7-0 in the first and then added five more goals to lead 12-1 by halftime. In the second half. Sewanee would add one goal in the third and two more in the fourth.
Overall, Sewanee dominated the shot count 47-23 and also finished with more clears, groundballs, and face-off wins.
Individually, freshmen Hayden Byrd and Matthew Stiefel led the attack with four goals. Baylor Koch, Conley Street, George Bukawyn, Ian Gillan, and Tyler Calnan also scored.
Additionally Cotter Brown, Bukawyn, Michael Morris, and Stiefel all added at least one assist.
Behind the outstanding play of goalkeeper Tommy Healy, Sewanee's defense continued to play well. Sewanee forced 17 Panther turnovers while five players finished with at least three groundballs.
Sewanee will play second-seeded Centre on Sunday after the Colonels defeated Berry College 10-7 in a physical match late Friday evening.
