Cabrini Well-Repped in CSAC Postseason Awards

from press release

ASTON, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference has announced the 2014 CSAC Men's Lacrosse Awards, as voted upon by the league's seven head coaches. These awards include First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention All-CSAC, as well as Player, Coach and Rookie of the Year and the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Cabrini College's Corey Elmer (Reinhold, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was the overwhelming favorite for CSAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. The senior attack racked up 53 goals and 47 assists for 100 total points to lead the conference by a wide margin. He registered a season-high 13 points on seven goals and six assists versus Marywood on April 5 and collected four goals or more seven times. Elmer accounted for 35 percent of Cabrini's total offensive output and currently sits atop the NCAA Division III leaderboard in points per game (6.57). He is also fourth in the nation in goals per game (3.64) and seventh in assists per game (2.93). Elmer and the Cavaliers went undefeated in the CSAC for the 13th consecutive year and will host the fourth-seeded Neumann University Knights in a CSAC semifinal contest Tuesday.

Gwynedd Mercy University defenseman Marc Bushong (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Twp.) was the coaches' selection for CSAC Rookie of the Year. Bushong, the lone freshman on the all-CSAC first team, started six of the 13 games he played and collected 56 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. Bushong and the Griffin defense surrendered 113 goals in 2014, the fewest of any CSAC team. He also won 10 face-offs for the Griffins, who finished the season 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC, good for the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. Bushong and the Griffins will travel to second-seeded Marywood University Tuesday for a semifinal matchup.

Cabrini College's Steve Colfer earned his ninth CSAC Coach of the Year award in his 14th season with the program for guiding the Cavaliers to an unprecedented 13th straight undefeated run through the conference. Colfer's squad owns a 14-1 record on the year and was ranked as high as No. 2 in NCAA Division III this season. The Cavaliers lead the CSAC in virtually every statistical category and are ranked second nationally in scoring offense (18.43), fourth in scoring margin (10.50) and third in points per game (28.43).
