N.E. Lacrosse Classic Set for Gillette Stadium

from press release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Gillette Stadium announced today that the 2011 New England Lacrosse Classic would be played on Saturday, April 16 with Syracuse University playing Providence College and Princeton University playing Dartmouth College.

"The New England Lacrosse Classic continues to provide the regional lacrosse community a great opportunity to see Division I men's lacrosse games in an NCAA championship venue," said Dan Murphy, stadium vice president for business development. "We look forward to the Classic serving as a foundation for the stadium to host the 2011 NCAA Division I quarterfinals on May 22."

Princeton and Dartmouth return to Gillette Stadium after participating in the 2010 New England Lacrosse Classic. Princeton beat Brown while Dartmouth shocked Cornell at last year's event. Syracuse will be making its third appearance at Gillette Stadium, having captured both the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championships in Foxborough. Providence will make its first appearance in an NFL venue. The games are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

STX, the world's leading manufacturer of men's and women's lacrosse sticks and protective gear, including gloves, padding and women's eye gear will serve as a presenting sponsor of the Classic.

"STX is extremely pleased to partner with Gillette Stadium in presenting the 2011 New England Lacrosse Classic," said Greg Tate, STX marketing manager. "STX is committed to promoting the sport of lacrosse in New England and believes this partnership will provide multiple opportunities for lacrosse fans to interact with STX and its top-of-the line products."

"The Providence College men's lacrosse team is very excited about the opportunity to play at such a great venue as Gillette Stadium," said Chris Burdick, head coach at Providence. "This event provides our program the opportunity to engage various campus groups, the Friar alumni as well as the New England lacrosse community."

"Playing in the 2010 Classic was a tremendous experience for the Dartmouth team," said Andy Towers, head coach at Dartmouth College. "We are very excited to once again play at one of the finest facilities in the country in front of the New England lacrosse community and our faithful Dartmouth College family."

Gillette Stadium will serve as one of two sites hosting the 2011 NCAA Division I quarterfinal games. The doubleheader is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 at times to be determined. In addition, the NCAA Divisions I, II and III Men's Lacrosse Championships return to Gillette Stadium in 2012.

Tickets for the New England Lacrosse Classic and NCAA quarterfinals go on sale to the general public Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 through Ticketmaster. Group sales will be available through Gillette Stadium by calling 508-549-0178.
