Marist Scores Nine in Second Half to Top Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Marist trailed 6-2 with 25:54 remaining in regulation. Over the next 13 minutes, the Red Foxes' women's lacrosse team scored eight consecutive goals en route to their second consecutive win on Wednesday night at Davidson, 11-9. Senior Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) led Marist in scoring with four goals.

Garland started the run with her first goal of the game with 20:24 remaining in the second half. Senior Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) added the next two goals at 15:25, off an assist from junior Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) and 13:53, on a free position shot. Garland scored two additional goals during the stretch three goals during the span.

Freshman Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) continued the streak with a free position goal at 11:56. It was Porcaccini's first goal of the season. The run was capped at the 7:31 mark with a goal from Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.); it was her second of the game. After the run was completed, Marist led 10-6 with 7:31 to play.

Davidson scored the next three goals to get within one, but with 18 seconds remaining, Garland added her fourth goal of the game to clinch the victory.

Noftsker and junior Madeline Schuck (Cockeysville, Md.) each had two caused turnovers. Sophomore Jessica Guarino (Wantagh, N.Y.) led all players with three ground balls, while Garland had three draw controls. Senior Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.), Wilson and Ciccarello each had two draw controls. As a team, the Red Foxes won all seven draw controls in the first half.

Begley, Garland and Noftsker all extended their goal scoring streaks to five games this season. Noftsker and Garland now have nine and eight game point scoring streaks dating back to last season.

Freshman Kelsey Thoms (Newark, N.Y.) made 11 saves en route to her fourth victory of the season. This is the second time in 2009 that the Red Foxes have overcome a halftime deficit to win a game.

Marist (4-1) will continue its four game road trip on Friday, March 20 as the Red Foxes will square off with the Presbyterian Blue Hose. The opening face-off is scheduled for noon.
