Freshman Prizio Leads LIU
from press release
BROOKLYN N.Y. -- Freshman Ashley Prizio (Brookfield, Conn.) of the Long Island University women's lacrosse team was named Northeast Conference co-Rookie of the Week it was announced on Monday. Prizio helped LIU post its first two wins of the season last week and shared the award with Monmouth's Molly O'Brien.
Prizio finished with six goals, seven points, two ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers in three games last week. In a dramatic 16-15 victory over Central Connecticut State on Sunday, Prizio found the netting twice in a late 5-0 scoring run that enabled the Blackbirds to erase a 15-11 deficit with under 13 minutes to play and emerge with the one-goal victory. In that contest, she recorded career-highs with four goals, five points, two ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Prizio delivered another clutch performance in LIU's first win of the year on March 16, scoring both her markers in the final five minutes of the contest as LIU ended the game with five straight goals to hold off Presbyterian, 17-11.
Prizio currently leads LIU with four assists and 14 points, and ranks second with ten goals.
Long Island hosts Iona in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, March 24, at 4:00 p.m. on LIU Field.
