Boston College Downs Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team capped of a mid-week trip to Burlington with a win against non-conference opponent the University of Vermont 14-8.

The Eagles (7-3, 0-2 ACC) gathered their seventh victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon against the Catamounts led by strong performances from senior Jenna McCabe and junior Lauren Costello both of whom registered four points in the victory.

The two teams played evenly throughout the first half with Vermont netting the opening goal and the two teams trading the lead three times and tying the score four times in the first 30 minutes. Vermont held a slim 5-4 margin with seven seconds to play before McCabe tallied her second goal of the game for BC to send the teams into the half with the scored tied at five apiece.

Seniors Lauren Fitzpatrick and Maura Mahoney gave the Eagles a two goal lead before Vermont retied the score at 7-7. Fitzpatrick added another goal to give BC a 7-8 lead before the Catamounts tallied what would end up being their last goal of the game to once again tie the score at eight.

The Eagles pulled away with six unanswered goals to close out the second half and the game for a 14-8 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made eight saves for the Eagles.

BC was outshot by Vermont 24-26, but picked up ten groundballs to the Catamounts six and caused five turnovers in the win.
