PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A pair of familiar names top the BIG EAST
women's lacrosse weekly awards as Syracuse senior Katie Rowan was
named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Loyola
sophomore Cara Filippelli was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player
of the Week. This is Rowan's third BIG EAST Offensive Player of the
Week award this season and the seventh of her career. It also is
the third BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week citation for
Rowan totaled a game-high six points, including four goals in the Orange's 14-13 win over Notre Dame on April 11. It was the only Syracuse game last week. Rowan scored two goals and had two assists as part of a 10-0 Orange scoring run to open the contest. She later scored what proved to be the game-winner with 1:55 left in regulation as the Orange held on for the victory. She leads the conference in scoring with 71 points and 33 assists.
Filippelli led the Greyhounds' defensive effort in a 17-4 conference win over Cincinnati on April 11. Filippelli caused four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. She also scored a pair of free-position goals. Filippelli leads the teams with 35 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers. She also has scored 10 goals.
