Detroit Mercy Adds Two More for 2010

University of Detroit Mercy head women's lacrosse coach Mary Ann Meltzer has added two more student-athletes to the 2010 roster in Marybeth Flanagan (GK, 5-11, Lansing, MI/Waverly) and Zaynib Hamze (MF, 5-5, Dublin, CA/Dublin).

Marybeth Flanagan (GK, 5-11, Lansing, MI/Waverly)
Will graduate from Waverly High School in 2009... Four-year varsity letterwinner in lacrosse at Waverly... Four-time all-conference honoree... WHS advanced to the MHSAA Championship Regional Final in 2009... Named Lansing State Journal "Player to Watch" sophomore season... Earned the Positive Coaches Alliance Award in 2007... Named Academy International MVP sophomore year... Warriors captured the regional tournament in 2006... Earned four varsity letters in cross country... Garnered CAAC Scholar Athlete Award for both lacrosse and cross country senior year... Member of the WHS marching band and National Honor Society... Will graduate in top 10 of the 2009 Waverly class.

"I think Marybeth will bring a lot of spirit to the team," said Meltzer. "She has a great attitude, goes above and beyond in everything that she does and works extremely hard. In addition, we are looking forward to having some depth at the goalie position."

Zaynib Hamze (MF, 5-5, Dublin, CA/Dublin)
Will graduate from Dublin High School in 2009... Three-year varsity letterwinner in lacrosse... Served as team captain for the Gaels both junior and senior seasons... Earned DFAL First Team honors in 2008 & '09... Tabbed as DHS Most Valuable Offensive Player sophomore and junior years... Named to the DFAL Second Team in 2007... Earned one varsity letter in soccer... Served as team captain and named MVP for junior varsity soccer squad in 2007... Two-year varsity letterwinner in cross country at DHS... Placed second both seasons with cross country at Frosh/Soph DFAL...Earned Distinguished Scholastic Team-California Interscholastic Federation/North Coast Section first three years at DHS.

"Zaynib is a very good athlete and we are excited to have her on our roster for the 2010 season," commented Meltzer. "She has good speed and will be contributing to both the attack and midfield positions. We will be looking for Zaynib to help settle our attack, move the ball, set up her teammates and also to put the ball in the back of the net."

Flanagan and Hamze join three other newcomers in Megan Callahan (MF, 5-3, Lake Worth, FL/Park Vista Community), Madison Noland (MF, 5-4, Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) and Lindsey Saunders (MF, 5-7, Pasadena, MD/Northeast), all of whom signed National Letters of Intent this past fall.
