St. Francis Dominant in Win over Bucknell

from press release

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four Saint Francis players netted three goals apiece and the Red Flash put together a pair of 6-0 runs to defeat Bucknell, 15-4, in women's lacrosse action at Graham Field on Wednesday afternoon.

“Today was a team effort and our hard work showed all over the field,” said SFU head coach Steph Marcon, whose team notched its first win of the spring. “From [goalie] Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) all the way to our attackers, we supported each other and worked together.”

For the fourth time in five games, Sheri Fort (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp) scored the first goal for the Red Flash, who were dominating on both ends of the field for the first 22 minutes of play. Saint Francis went on to tally the game's first six goals all while shutting out the Bison.

Bucknell scored the final two goals of the first half and the first goal out of the intermission to draw within three (6-3), but another 6-0 run by Saint Francis secured the outcome. The final 11-goal margin was the largest lead of the game for the Red Flash, thanks to a pair of scores by Kara Ledgerwood (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) in the final 90 seconds of play.

The Red Flash outshot the Bison 34-21 on the afternoon to make a solid effort by Pokusa stand up. The senior goalie stopped nine shots while scooping up a game-high six ground balls.

Ledgerwood finished the game with three goals and two assists for Saint Francis. Fort totaled three goals and a team-high three assists, while Danielle Conwell (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) also netted a trio of lamplighters.

Bucknell's Katelyn Miller scored two goals to pace the Bison.

Saint Francis also held a 14-7 edge in draw controls.

The Red Flash (1-4) return to action on Sunday when they stage their home opener against Howard.
