Villanova Rolls Past Wagner, 19-5

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Justine Donodeo scored five goals while Maria Bowman and Ali Judge added three goals each to lead the Villanova women's lacrosse team to a 19-5 victory over Wagner on Friday night.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-4 on the season while the Wildcats, who are members of the BIG EAST Conference, improved its record to 4-2.
Villanova jumped out to an early 6-1 lead en route to building an 11-5 edge at halftime. The Wildcats were led by Donodeo's four goals in the opening stanza. In the opening half, Wagner took 11 shots and found the net on five of them. In the second half, however, the Seahawks struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive end, misfiring on all nine shots while the Wildcats scored eight times on its 15 shots.
Junior midfielder Melanie Garces (San Diego, CA/ Westview) and senior attack Dana Marchitelli (Annapolis, MD/ South River) scored two goals apiece to pace the Seahawks offensively while junior midfielder Carolyn Clar (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) tallied one goals while assisting on another.
Villanova out-shot the Seahawks 33-20, led in ground balls 22-16 and held a 17-8 advantage in draw controls. Wagner was 3-of-6 on free position shots while the Wildcats were 1-of-4.
Julia Todd recorded four saves in goal for Villanova over the game's first 50 minutes before giving way to Aman Hirschfield who stopped three shots in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
For Wagner, senior Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) had two saves during the first 23 minutes of the game before freshman Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) came on to record eight saves in the game's final 23 minutes.
Wagner is next in action on Sunday, March 20 when the Seahawks travel to Oyster Bay, NY to meet Siena in the inaugural Supervisor's Trophy Game. Opening draw is at 1:00 pm.
