Hofstra's Women's Lax Duo Earn CAA Nods
from press release
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Coming off one of the more
thrilling victories in recent memory, the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse
team was recognized on Monday as junior goalie Jackie Pandolf
(Holbrook, NY) earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of
the Week honors, while freshman attacker Lindsay McKinnon
(Fairport, NY) picked up CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
Hofstra (4-5) defeated No. 17 Notre Dame, 10-9, on Sunday in its lone game last week.
Pandolf, who shared the award with Kelly Custer of Towson, continued her stellar play this season as she was outstanding down the stretch against No. 17 Notre Dame to allow the Pride to complete the comeback and stun the nationally-ranked Fighting Irish. Pandolf had a game-high 11 saves, including several from point blank range late in the contest as Hofstra was still mounting its comeback. Pandolf also added a game and career-high nine ground balls vs. Notre Dame and tied for team-high honors with a pair of caused turnovers. The Holbrook, NY native now has double digit saves in eight of Hofstra's nine games this season and she leads the Pride with 29 ground balls in 2011. She also has six caused turnovers this season, while playing all 553:46 minutes in net. Her 102 saves rank in the nation's top ten.
McKinnon capped a stunning 4-0 game-ending run for the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team as the Fairport, NY native notched a free-position goal with 7.8 seconds remaining to lift the Pride past No. 17 Notre Dame. McKinnon was great throughout the game as she tied for team-high honors in points with two goals and two assists. McKinnon has a combined five goals in Hofstra's last two games and she has scored the game-winner in both contests. Her seven points over Hofstra's last two contests have accounted for half of her 14 points this season. McKinnon now has nine goals and five assists for 14 points this season. She is the Pride's fourth-leading scorer this year.
Hofstra is off this week before beginning CAA play next Friday (April 8) with a 7 p.m. road game at Delaware.
