Mollison, Merrifield Send No. 1 Maryland Past No. 12 Princeton

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The top-ranked Maryland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 18:18, with five different players scoring. and defeated 12th-ranked Princeton 17-10 on Wednesday.
Sarah Mollison led the Terrapins with six points on three goals and three assists, while Laura Merrifield had a team-best four goals and an assist. Kristy Black and Katie Schwarzmann each had four points, while Brandi Jones and Alex Aust had three points apiece. Goalie Brittany Dipper earned the start and made nine saves in the first 51:48. Mary Jordan would play the final 8:12 and allowed all four shots on goal.
Lizzy Drumm scored five goals for Princeton, the first of which quelled the Terps' opening run with an unassisted goal at 7:14, but Maryland responded with a quick goal on the restart.
Cassie Pyle set up Drumm for the Tigers' second goal and sophomore Jaci Gassaway converted on a free-position attempt as Princeton cut its deficit to 7-3 with 3:26 remaining.

The Terps opened the second like the first, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 6:12.
The teams would trade goals for the next 10 minutes. Ellis, Pyle and Drumm would each score for the Tigers, while Alex Aust, Sarah Mollison and Merrifield tallied goals for Maryland to make it 15-6 with 13 minutes to play.
Maryland tallied two more goals before Princeton went on a 4-0 run in the game's final 6:34, with Drumm and Ellis trading the first two goals and then assisting on each other's next goals.
Maryland improved to 14-0 while Princeton fell to 6-4, with all four losses to team's ranked in the top 10 national poll.
Princeton sophomore Sam Ellis had four points with three goals
and an assist, matching her career best.
Princeton had a 28-26 advantage in shots and won 51 percent of the draw controls in the game. Maryland had a 15-10 edge in ground balls.
