IWLCA Division I Poll: Florida Makes History
Florida, the top seed for the NCAA tournament, ends the regular season ranked No. 1 in the IWLCA coaches' poll. The Gators, in just their third season, become the 14th program to reach No. 1 and the first new school to move to the top spot since March 21, 2005, when Northwestern got there for the first time. We all know how that program turned out.
The next poll will be released May 28, after the final four.
Who's Hot
Loyola (+5): "We were the underdogs coming in here and I think we proved a lot of people wrong," Loyola sophomore Marlee Paton said after the Greyhounds beat Syracuse 13-7 in the Big East championship game at the Carrier Dome.
Dartmouth (+4): The Big Green emerged as the Ivy League champion, beating Penn, 6-4, in the final. The reward? A first-round NCAA game at Syracuse.
Who's Not
Cornell, Ohio State, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins,
Princeton and Boston College. All missed the NCAA
tournament. Please note the IWLCA poll has no bearing on NCAA
tournament selections or seedings.
Who's New
Nobody.
