Freshman McCartney Stars Again for Blue Hens
from press release
NEWARK, Del. -- Freshman Caitlin McCartney scored four goals to become the first Blue Hen player to net a hat trick in her first two collegiate games in over 30 years and sophomore Chelsea Fay scored three times as the University of Delaware knocked off Villanova 11-7 in its home opener Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens (1-1) rebounded nicely from a season-opening loss to No. 2 ranked Maryland last week as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first half and held off the Wildcats (1-1) for the victory.
The Wildcats cut the Delaware lead to three goals at 7-4 at the break, but goals by McCartney and Fay in the first minutes of the second half stopped the momentum and propelled the Hens to the victory.
Freshman Allison Hahn also added two goals and Bridget Burns recorded a goal and an assist.
