Godfrey Helps Lift Lafayette Over Marist in OT

from press release

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - A pair of overtime goals propelled Lafayette to an 8-6 victory over Marist on Thursday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. The Leopards were led offensively by a four-goal effort from junior Addie Godfrey.

Less than two minutes into overtime, Jessica Rothstein took a pass from Ana White and deposited it into the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal. Cammie Linville then linked up with Godfrey halfway through the overtime session to seal the victory for Lafayette.

Lafayette (3-1) broke the ice with a goal less than five minutes into the first half. Senior Margaux LeBuffe took advantage of a free-position chance and fired a shot past Marist (0-3) goalkeeper Ashley Casiano, putting the Leopards up 1-0. Lebuffe's tally was her third of the season.

Three minutes later, Lafayette put another shot past Casiano to take a 2-0 advantage. Addie Godfrey was credited with the goal, which came officially at 22:41.

Amanda Tuck's score two and a half minutes after Godfrey found the back of the cage cut the Lafayette lead in half. Godfrey had a chance to make it 3-1 with 17:44 to go in the opening half, but her shot struck the crossbar and the game remained 2-1 in Lafayette's favor. Godfrey then capitalized on a free-position attempt to regain Lafayette's two goal cushion and force Marist to call timeout with 12:15 remaining in the half.

Marist pulled within one at the 8:44 mark when Jamie Ramano's rip beat Lafayette goalie Mimi Connell. Neither team was able to find the back of the net over the final eight and change, and Lafayette took a 3-2 lead into halftime.

Twenty-two seconds into the second half, Lafayette surrendered the game-tying goal to Ariel Kramer. At 26:19 Romano recorded her second score of the contest to give the Red Foxes their first lead.

Kelly Condon gave the home team a two-goal margin with her first of the year, finding the back of the cage with 17:14 to play.

A little more than two minutes later, Lafayette drew within one when Courtney Landolfe ended Marist's run with a goal of her own. The sophomore's marker made it 5-4 with 14:55 remaining.

With 2:28 to play in regulation White set up Godfrey, who rifled a shot into the upper corner of the cage to knot the game at five apiece. White's assist was the first of two helpers for the sophomore.

Laura Kleiber's free-position goal put Lafayette ahead 6-5 with 57 seconds to play prior to Romano scoring her third of the game with 18 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Lafayette held a 26-20 advantage in shots and scooped up 26 ground balls compared to Marist's 18. The Leopards had a slight edge in turnovers, forcing 17 Marist miscues and giving it away 15 times. The Red Foxes won 11 of the game's 17 draw controls. In goal, Connell finished with six saves, while Casiano totaled 12 stops on the other end for Marist.

Lafayette returns home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with in-state foe Temple at Rappolt Field.
