Maryland Shuts Out Hofstra in Second Half

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team held Hofstra scoreless in the second half en route to an 11-4 win Sunday afternoon.
The Terps (5-1, 1-1 ACC) were led in scoring by Katie Schwarzmann who racked up a hat trick for the second consecutive game. Karri Ellen Johnson and Alex Aust tacked on two goals each. Melissa Diepold led the defense with a game-high four groundballs.
Maryland outscored the Pride 7-4 in the first half, courtesy of three goals from Schwarzmann. A stellar defensive effort silenced the Hofstra attack in the second stanza. Maryland amassed a 33-17 shot advantage in the match.
"We really stepped up today defensively against a tough Hofstra team," head coach Cathy Reese said.
Brittany Dipper racked up a season-high nine saves in the cage. Iliana Sanza led Maryland with three draw controls. Kristy Black and Schwarzmann tacked on two assists apiece.
The Terps return home with a match against Syracuse next Saturday. Maryland is seeking its 37th consecutive victory in College Park.
