Anderson Pushes Rutgers Past Saint Joseph's
from press release
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Matching her personal best with four goals, junior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) pushed Rutgers women's lacrosse past Saint Joseph's Wednesday night at the RU Turf Field.
It marked the third hat trick of Anderson's career and first this season. Senior attack Danielle Mascera (Verona, N.J.) aided the RU attack with three assists. Junior netminder Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) made three saves to earn the win for the Scarlet Knights (4-3).
The Hawks (4-5) were led by Val Paolucci with three goals.
Anderson got the Scarlet Knights on the board first with a strong move to her right nearly 10 minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) made the score 2-0 with a free position goal at the 17:20 mark.
St. Joe's rattled off three-straight goals to take its only lead of the contest, 3-2, before the Scarlet Knights answered with two of the final three scores before the half to knot the score at four going into the break.
Rutgers seemed to grab control of the game with four unanswered goals to start the second stanza. After sophomore attack Meg Clements (Pennington, N.J.) opened the run on a dish from Mascera, Anderson posted two of the next three scores, including a free position goal with 6:14 remaining, to give RU a commanding 8-4 lead.
The Hawks would not quit, however, registering the final three goals of the match. With 1:06 to play, Anderson won the final draw of the match to seal the victory for RU.
