from press release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore Kimberly Kovar scored a goal in sudden death overtime to give the LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team the 14-13 win over Wagner on Thursday at LIU Field. The goal is the Bethpage, N.Y. native's sixth of the season.
Kovar's goal came at the 2:15 mark in the second overtime, and it was sophomore Shakoya Smith's goal in the first overtime that forced the final showdown. Wagner's Carolyn Clark gave the Seahawks the 12-13 lead first in the extra minutes.
In a game that featured eight ties, the Blackbirds jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from sophomore Gina Eberwein, Smith and freshman Brittany Rader. Wagner netted the next three to tie the game halfway through the first half. Sophomore Katie Williams and Kovar each found the back of the net to give LIU the 5-3 lead at the 11:56 mark.
Wagner added one but Smith answered directly after, and the Seahawks chipped in two more to knot the score at six. Junior Caitlin Farrell gave the Blackbirds a one-goal cushion before Michela Galante scored right at the horn to tie the game at seven heading into halftime.
Farrell and Williams added goals quick to start the second half, but Wagner answered again with three goals to put the Blackbirds in a 9-11 hole. Williams added two while Smith added one more to take the 12-11 lead, but Sam Morin found the back of the net with three minutes left to send the game into overtime.
