from press release
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women's lacrosse team will play eight home games at its new home, Virtue Field, during the 2012 season. UVM head coach Jen Johnson announced the 2012 schedule today.
Vermont will face teams from eight different conferences in addition to the competitive America East slate of games. UVM's challenging schedule includes eight teams that either advanced to the semifinals or won their league tournaments.
The Catamounts open the 2012 season with a pair of home games. Vermont hosts Colgate in the first lacrosse game on Virtue Field on February 24 at 3 p.m. UVM also faces Siena on Virtue Field on February 29, also at 3 p.m.
The Catamounts will then play six of the next seven games on the road. The road swing is highlighted by a trip to North Carolina during the week of spring break. UVM will take on Davidson and High Point on March 4 and 7. Davidson advanced to the semifinals of the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament, while High Point is the defending champions.
Vermont opens up America East action at Boston University on March 24 and will wrap up the league schedule hosting defending champion Albany on April 28 on "Senior Day". Albany posted a perfect 6-0 conference mark and went 18-1 for the year, while advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The top four teams in the final regular season standings will advance to the America East Tournament, which will be played on May 3 and 5 on the campus of the highest seed.
Vermont returns 23 letterwinners for the 2012 season from last year's team that went 8-9 overall. The Catamounts also return 78 percent of their offense, including the team's top two scorers in sophomore Sydney Mas (63 pts) and senior Samantha Stern (28 pts).
