Peterson, Cook Lead Stony Brook in Opener

from press release

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Powered by 10 points from Claire Petersen and seven goals from Demmianne Cook, the No. 18/19 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team posted a 20-5 road victory to open the 2013 season Saturday at Graham Field.

Petersen's 10 points came on four goals and six assists and tied her own school record, which she notched against Vermont and Iona last season. Amber Kupres tallied a hat trick as nine different players put one in the back of the net for Stony Brook (1-0).

Franki Caridi made seven saves and allowed just three goals.

Caroline O'Neill gave up 18 goals and tallied seven saves as Bucknell begins the season 0-1.

Coach's Reaction

"I am proud of the effort today. It was a very balanced win with nine different scorers and great team defense. We were sloppy at times, but we will continue to improve."

--Head Coach Joe Spallina
