from press release

EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon Ducks scored three goals within the first five minutes against Cincinnati and never looked back, cruising past the Bearcats, 16-5, on Sunday afternoon at Papé Field.

With the win, Oregon improves to 1-1 while Cincinnati falls to 1-1.

Oregon senior Kate Cathell scored a career-high four goals to lead the Ducks and junior Shannon Propst tied a career-high with three. In addition, Cathell posted two assists to tie her career-best and sophomore Devon Frazer punched home two goals for the second time in her career.

After Oregon raced out to a 3-0 lead, senior Maggie Kovacs scored back-to-back goals to put the Ducks ahead, 5-0.

Cincinnati cut the lead to 5-1 moments later but a 3-0 run sparked by a Casey Brogan goal and two Cathell scores put the Ducks in the driver's seat with an 8-1 lead. Oregon carried an 8-2 lead into the break.

Cincinnati's Marissa Pierson brought the Bearcats within five when she converted a man-up goal with 21:19 remaining, but another 3-0 blitz by the Ducks put the match out of reach. Frazer scored the first of the three goals with 19:08 left and freshman Carly O'Connell and Hayley Milner followed with back-to-back goals at the 18:13 and 17:37 marks to give Oregon an 11-3 edge.

The Ducks out-scored the Bearcats 5-2 over the final 17 minutes to seal their first win of the season.

Also netting goals today for the Ducks were junior Sami Kiser and sophomore Olivia Pyne.

Oregon junior goalie Caroline Federighi made two saves in the first half en route to her first win of the season. Senior stopper Salliebeth Finnegan made two saves in the second.

Oregon out-shot Cincinnati 38-10. Twenty-Nine of the 38 shots were on-goal. The last time the Ducks took at least 30 shots in a match was on April 6, 2012 against Fresno State. In addition, the Ducks won the draw control battle, 15-8, and committed 16 turnovers to Cincinnati's 25.
