Ariana Parker Leads Albany Rout of Niagara

ALBANY, N.Y.-- Junior midfielder Ariana Parker's five-goal performance paced the University at Albany past Niagara, 19-6, on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at John Fallon Field. Junior goalkeeper Anna Berman recorded not only her first win of the season, but she also recorded her 200th career save at UAlbany.
UAlbany (1-1) came out of the gate with a bang, scoring four goals in five minutes for an early 4-0 lead with 25:04 remaining in the first. Senior midfielder Jess Antelmi scored her first two goals of the season during the run.
Niagara (0-3) responded with two of the next three goals of the game to cut the deficit within three, 5-2, with 16:07 remaining in the half. The Purple Eagles Fran Pollastro recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season to keep her team within striking distance.
The Great Danes rattled nine straight goals in the final 16 minutes of play to extend their lead to 12, 14-2. Five different offensive players tallied a goal with Parker leading the pack with three, two of which were in the final minute of the half.
The Purple Eagles opened up the second half, scoring the two of the first three goals to cut the deficit to 11, 15-4, with 16:04 remaining in the game. Niagara's Danielle Maio and Paige Matecki each recorded a goal during the stretch.
UAlbany's defense allowed two more goals in the final 16 minutes of the game to hold Niagara under 10 goals in a game for the sixth straight time in the series.
The Great Danes held advantages in draw controls, 18-9, ground balls, 18-11, and shots, 36-10. The Great Danes had six different players with multi-goal performances and freshman Andrea Flood recorded her first career goal.
UAlbany's Berman improved to 1-1 on the season with three saves tallied. Niagara's Paige Sasser fell to 0-3 on the season, having recorded seven saves on 23 chances.
The Great Danes look to build from their success against Bryant on Saturday, Mar. 2 at John Fallon Field. Game set for 3 p.m.
