UConn Wins in OT, Best Start Since 2000

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Husky lacrosse
team improved to 5-0 on the season with a thrilling 12-11 overtime
win at Fairfield (3-4) on Saturday afternoon. This marks the best
start to the season for Connecticut since 2000.
UConn had two goalkeepers see action in Saturday’s matinee as Marya Fratoni earned her first career victory after defending the goal for 26:35 allowing four goals and tallying four saves, while Shannon Nee registered seven saves in 30:25 minutes of action.
Connecticut had four Huskies record three points in the overtime win with Kacey Pippitt (2 goals, 1 assist), Lauren Kahn (3 goals), Morgan O’Reilly (2 goals, 1 assist) and Catherine Ross (3 goals) leading the way.
The Huskies, who were outshot 25-24, went into halftime with an 8-4 advantage before the Stags went on a 4-0 run to open the second half. UConn held an 11-10 lead with the clock running down when Fairfield’s Chloe Mangan scored with 13 seconds remaining to even the game at 11-11 forcing the contest into overtime.
After battling for five minutes in overtime it was O’Reilly who found the back of the net on an isolation shot after beating a Fairfield defender with 42 seconds remaining to give the Huskies a 12-11 win. It was O’Reilly’s seventh goal of the season and third career game-winning shot.
