from press release
SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Michaela Jarvis finished with a program-record 10 points and senior goalkeeper Sammy Slattery had a record 16 saves to lift the San Diego State Lacrosse team to a victory over Temple, 19-12, on Saturday afternoon at Aztec Lacrosse Field. It's the third-straight victory for the Aztecs (5-2, 1-0 MPSF) and fifth in their last six games.
Jarvis eclipsed her previous record of eight points on Feb. 22 against Saint Mary's, while Slattery broke her own previous mark of 12 saves against California on March 10, 2012. Sophomore Bailey Ewing had three goals and three assists, sophomore Sophie Koubek scored four goals with an assist, junior Meris Walsh added three goals and Lauren Maack recorded three assists. Defensively, sophomores Madison Wallace and Jade Jones each caused a turnover and scooped up two groundballs.
Temple jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but consecutive goals by Jarvis tied the score with 22:37 left in the first half. After two more Temple scores, San Diego State scored the next six points, as Koubek had three goals during the stretch. The Owls responded with a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 8-7 with 7:35 remaining before intermission, but the Aztecs scored the last three goals of the half, capped off by Walsh's goal with 1:37 on the clock to give SDSU an 11-7 advantage at halftime.
Goals by Jarvis and Walsh to begin the second half extended the Aztecs' lead, 13-7, and consecutive scores by Jarvis put SDSU ahead, 16-9, with 18:49 remaining. Temple's Jaymie Tabor scored three-straight goals to pull the Owls within 17-12 with 5:11 left, but they weren't able to get any closer.
The Aztecs hit the road to resume MPSF play against Oregon on Friday, March 22, beginning at 3 p.m. PT.
