Dolphins Take Share of Atlantic Sun Regular Season Title
from press release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Not even a 45-minute lighting delay could slow down the Jacksonville women's lacrosse team on a memorable Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins claimed at least a share of the Atlantic Sun regular season crown by capping off a celebration of their first four-year senior class with a 16-2 win over Detroit (3-12; 2-1).
JU (10-4; 3-0) has now won three straight league titles, including the inaugural A-Sun championship this season.
Senior Amanda Hurley (Columbus, Ga.) scored three of her four goals in the first 10 minutes of action as part of a 6-0 run to start the game. Junior Brit Orashen (Lebanon, N.J.) also had two of her goals during the stretch which helped the Dolphins jump out to a 10-1 lead at halftime.
The scoring continued for JU in the second half before the game was halted due to heavy rains and lighting with 22 minutes remaining. When play finally resumed the Dolphins showed no signs of rust as they put the finishing touches on their 10th victory of the season.
Junior Morgan Derner (Lake Mary, Fla.) added three goals and an assist while sophomore Taylor McCord (Jacksonville, Fla.) chipped in a pair of goals and three assists.
The Dolphins travel to Navy next Friday before finishing the regular season at Howard on Sunday. JU will then play host to the A-Sun Tournament April 26-28 at Southern Oak Stadium.
