Harvard to Host Melting Pot Tournament

from press release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's lacrosse team has announced it will be hosting the Melting Pot Tournament at Harvard Stadium and the Soldiers Field Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium Sunday, Sept. 30.

The all-day event includes 18 scrimmages between 11 of the best women's lacrosse programs in the northeast. The field includes Syracuse, Boston College, Boston University, Colgate, Albany, Brown, Vermont, Massachusetts, Bryant, New Hampshire and Harvard. Three of those teams went to the NCAA tournament last year and three squads finished in the top 20 in the ILWCA poll. Each team will play at least three scrimmages at the Melting Pot Sunday.

Former Harvard head coach Carole Kleinfelder, who led the Crimson from 1979-2003 and helped Harvard win the NCAA title in 1990, started this fall tournament during the 1990s. After a hiatus, current Crimson head coach Lisa Miller, who is entering her sixth season, has revived the tournament during her tenure in Cambridge.

In addition to the scrimmages, there will be a 7-on 7-tournament where youth groups can watch some of the top college teams from the northeast.
