The season starts today for the No. 20 Princeton women’s lacrosse team, which travels to No. 9 Loyola for a non-conference showdown.
This contest marks the first time since 2009 that the Tigers and Greyhounds have taken the field against one another. In the series history, Princeton holds an 8-3 advantage.
Loyola opened its season with a 16-12 win over Virginia last weekend, led by Hannah Schmitt’s six goals and Marlee Paton’s seven points, while Molly Wolf had 11 saves to earn the win.
In the team’s history, the majority have seen both squads nationally ranked, with three ‘upsets’ – a 2001 Loyola win over then-No. 2 Princeton, and a pair of 2003 games where Loyola opened with an upset of the Top-ranked Tigers only to have the favor returned by the Tigers in the NCAA semifinals when the Greyhounds were the No. 1 seed.
